Who I Am, What I Do, and What I Believe

Dr. Mark Ellestad, board-certified psychiatrist in Seattle specializing in depression, anxiety, ADHD, and addiction treatment

Welcome to Ellestad Psychiatry. I am a double board-certified psychiatrist in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry with over fifteen years of clinical experience. I believe that effective psychiatric care begins with a trusting, warm therapeutic relationship, and that every patient deserves to feel genuinely valued, respected, and heard.

I work with adults experiencing panic attacks, anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, and trauma. I also help individuals navigating substance use concerns or other ongoing health challenges improve mood stability, reduce anxiety, strengthen focus, and function more fully in their daily lives.

My approach is grounded in evidence-based psychiatric care, combining medication management and psychotherapy with individualized treatment planning. Care is tailored to each person’s goals and needs, with an emphasis on improving emotional well-being, resilience, and long-term functioning.

I also specialize in working with individuals who identify as LGBTQ+. I strive to provide affirming, inclusive psychiatric care that acknowledges the unique stressors related to identity, relationships, minority stress, and lived experience.

I recognize that LGBTQ+ individuals often face challenges within a largely heteronormative world, and that feeling truly understood by a mental health provider can be essential to feeling safe in treatment. Creating a space where patients feel seen, respected, and supported is central to my work.

I believe that connection is at the heart of psychiatry and that compassion is at the center of medicine. When both are present, meaningful healing and growth can occur.

I also believe:

  • That self-exploration and authentic therapeutic relationships support lasting mental health,

  • That evidence-based treatment works best when care is individualized and collaborative,

  • That understanding the whole person—including identity, history, and relationships—matters in psychiatric care,

  • And that our struggles can foster resilience, insight, and a deeper sense of meaning over time.

My Approach to Psychiatric Care

Psychiatric medication management and psychotherapy in Seattle for anxiety, panic, addiction and adhd

My psychiatry practice is grounded in the belief that effective treatment involves both the mind and body, and that healing is most sustainable when care addresses emotional, psychological, and physical well-being together. I aim to provide a safe, supportive space for self-exploration while delivering thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care.

By integrating evidence-based medication management and psychotherapy with clinically supported mind–body approaches, we will collaborate to develop a personalized treatment plan focused on reducing symptoms, improving daily functioning, and supporting long-term mental health.

“Healing is not about getting rid of all the pain, but about learning to carry it differently.”
